The Lano Company

Kansas City, Missouri

UNVERIFIED

We were unable to verify whether it is still operating. The last confirmed sighting we found dates to 2015.

What happened after

Original domain thelanocompany.com now 301-redirects to an unrelated cosmetics brand (mirabellabeauty.com), verified by direct fetch, which does not mention Lano/lanolin anywhere; a second candidate domain purelano.com returned 404. Multiple stale business directories still list the company with no confirmation of recent activity.

What happened on the show

The Lano Company grew out of a single lanolin based lip balm that Miranda created, and from there she lost the thread, spinning out a jumble of unrelated beauty products with no unifying idea, including light up tweezers and a lip balm fitted with a mirror and an LED light. Marcus liked the core concept, a coherent lanolin based line, and agreed to invest $500,000 for 20 percent plus a share of profits. After Miranda's scattered products failed to sell, he outsourced the manufacturing and product development and consolidated everything under one brand, Pure Lano. When a rushed logo design accidentally resembled a swastika, he settled on a cleaner mark and packaging, and Miranda went on to successfully market the streamlined range, including an improved light on lip balm. The episode was a study in focus, taking an inventor with too many ideas and forcing her down to one good one.

After the cameras left

We could not verify the company's current status. The original domain now redirects to an unrelated cosmetics brand, which we confirmed by fetching it directly, and that brand makes no mention of Lano or lanolin anywhere, while a second candidate domain returned an error. Several stale business directories still list the company at its Kansas City address on West 10th Street, but none confirm recent activity. The lapsed and repurposed domain suggests the business may be gone, but that is not enough to call it closed under our evidence rules, so it ships unverifiable pending a recheck.
