What happened on the show

Standard Burger began as the shared dream of five friends who wanted to build a restaurant chain, and by the time co owner Sammy had emailed Marcus enough times to finally get a visit, it was buried in debt. Marcus found the food merely average, not the standard the name promised, and traced that to slipping kitchen discipline and frozen meat. He also learned that Sammy's brother Fuji, the only one with real restaurant experience, had been pushed out of the group. Marcus structured a deal, $130,000 into the business plus $15,000 to each owner for 30 percent, on one condition, that Fuji be invited back and given a 10 percent stake. With Joe stepping up as manager and Fuji running the kitchen, they built a new menu around quality ingredients and remodeled the restaurant to spotlight the burgers, adding stations for shakes and baked potatoes. The revamped concept clicked, and the group began thinking about expansion.

After the cameras left

The story here is relocation more than survival. The original Great Kills location on Staten Island, on Hylan Boulevard, closed in 2018, and the company announced plans to move and expand into Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The old address later resurfaced as a ghost kitchen listing operating under a variation of the name. So the brand did not simply vanish, it shifted, though the trail is thin enough that we hold it at medium confidence and note the original storefront is no longer there. Relocated as of our 2026 pass.
