Tonnie's Minis

New York City, New York

OPEN

Open. The rescue stuck and it continues to operate.

What happened after

Mini-desserts bakery, expanded from West Village to Broadway Manhattan and Newark NJ; Yelp listing shown updated July 2026 (49 reviews, 126 photos).

What happened on the show

Tonnie's Minis made miniature cupcakes and had fallen on hard times after owner Tonnie expanded far too aggressively. His signature idea was a build your own cupcake, though in practice that amounted to a few toppings behind the counter. Buried in debt, he had borrowed from his wife and family and even tangled with a loan shark. Marcus was skeptical and offered $100,000 for 20 percent, a fraction of the $600,000 for a third that Tonnie had imagined his company was worth. The gap between ambition and sense was the whole story. Even while drowning, Tonnie had already signed a lease on a Newark location before stabilizing his original store. Marcus concentrated on what he could control, renovating the shop into a more inviting storefront and putting the customer assembled cupcake idea at the heart of the layout rather than an afterthought behind the register.

After the cameras left

The bakery not only survived but grew. Tonnie's Minis expanded from its West Village origins to a Broadway location in Manhattan and another in Newark, New Jersey, with a Yelp listing updated as recently as July 2026 showing dozens of reviews and photos. The reckless expansion that nearly sank the company was reined in, and the mini dessert concept found its footing. Confirmed operating as of 2026, high confidence.
