What happened on the show
This was the show's only episode to feature two separate businesses, and Da Lobsta was the first. Owned by a man known as J, it sold lobster takeaway food across two storefronts and a food truck, and it had run deep into debt. Marcus liked the product but was severely put off by J's management once he dug into the finances. J had leaned on family money without putting in a dollar of his own, all while maintaining an expensive personal lifestyle. Distrustful, Marcus offered $210,000 for a controlling 51 percent, full financial control, and a salary for J, but J would not surrender control of his company and the deal died. Marcus summed up Da Lobsta bluntly as a business that did not deserve the investment, and turned his attention to the other half of the episode, the pie shop Betty's Pie Whole, where he saw an owner far more worth backing.
After the cameras left
We could not confirm Da Lobsta's current status. Its official site failed to load with an expired security certificate, which we verified directly and which points to a neglected or abandoned web presence, and we found no dated recent reviews or news. Addresses on file placed it on North Clinton Street and North Clark Street in Chicago. The dead website is a negative signal but not conclusive proof of closure, so under our evidence rules the business ships as unverifiable, with a recheck recommended via its Yelp or Google listing for a permanently closed tag.
