What happened on the show

Nick Anderson had been a decorated chef in the nineties, but by the time Ramsay reached Rococo in King's Lynn he had fallen hard, refusing to modernise his menu or his methods. Ramsay traced the stubbornness partly to the way Nick had been sacked from a hotel soon after winning it a Michelin star in 1997. Talking to locals, Ramsay heard how poor the restaurant's reputation had become and concluded there was no saving it as it stood. The only route back, he told Nick, was to start over in the same building, and Nick agreed. Rococo was reborn as Maggie's, gutted and refitted, with a new menu built around local seafood. On the revisit Ramsay was glad to find Nick had taken to the new identity and, in his own words, finally let go of the ghosts that had been holding him back.

The reinvention did not hold for long. Relaunched on air as Maggie's in October 2007, the restaurant closed later that same year, its prices too high to keep custom under owner Nick Anderson. We rate this medium confidence: the regional paper reports it only via search summary, and a claim that another restaurant later took the King's Lynn site came through contradictory listings, one of which called that successor itself permanently closed, so we left it out rather than assert it. What is firm is that the fresh start Ramsay engineered lasted a matter of months.
