What happened on the show
Carolyn owned a chain of Long Island hair salons whose flagship had fallen into neglect after a bitter split with her former business partner threw the company into turmoil. To get by she sold a range of beauty products, and her color bar was the real revenue engine, but with no inventory system the operation bled customers and wasted product. Marcus invested $250,000 for 20 percent of the salon business, and separately claimed 51 percent of Carolyn's private label product line, which he saw more potential in. He stripped every outside brand from the shelves except her own, repackaged it, and renamed the line using her children's names as Erika Cole by Racquel. He renovated the flagship, removed an ineffective general manager, and gave Carolyn a direct line to her individual store managers. With a working inventory system and a refreshed space, the salon reopened to strong results, one of the tidier turnarounds of the season.
