What happened on the show
Stein Meats was a 75 year old Brooklyn wholesaler moving something like $50 million in product to retailers and restaurants, including its own Brooklyn Burger line, and yet it was drowning in debt because Alan and Howard never chased the money their customers owed them. Marcus put up $1 million for half the company and started running down the outstanding receivables himself, only to grow frustrated that the owners and their general manager Frank stayed passive about collecting the very debts that had sunk them. Then the books gave way. An audit revealed the figures had been badly under reported, the company owed close to six times what Marcus had been told, it sat two weeks from bankruptcy, and it could not even cover payroll. He pulled his $1 million offer. Rather than abandon the place entirely, he agreed to inject $200,000 in working capital in exchange for the one asset worth having, the Brooklyn Burger brand. It was a salvage deal, not a rescue, a way to keep something valuable out of the wreck.
After the cameras left
The corporate entity remains on the books. New York State business records list A. Stein Meat Products with an active filing status, tied to the company's longtime address on First Avenue in Brooklyn. That is a registry signal rather than a confirmation of daily operations, so we hold it at medium confidence, but the Brooklyn Burger name Marcus salvaged went on to considerable reach as a regional brand. What we can say cleanly is that the legal entity has not been dissolved. Medium confidence open as of 2026.
