What happened on the show
Tea2Go was a small tea franchise run by Jeff and his son Taylor, who had dropped out of college to help. Marcus read the barren, minimalist design and even the name as signals of a pure takeout concept, and found the company insolvent with a million dollar debt, Jeff having invested poorly in corporate stores while leaving franchisees unsupported, and showing no real passion for tea himself. Marcus rebranded the concept as The American Tea & Spice Shop and wiped out the money owed to the tea distributor, handing him equity instead. Much of the episode was family repair, managing Taylor's immaturity and his fractured relationship with his father, who effectively disowned him despite Marcus's mediation. Jeff kept trying to sell the old Tea2Go franchise, unaware of franchise law and effectively competing with Marcus, who turned it into an opening to start a new holding company and let the franchisees choose. The prototype American Tea & Spice Shop opened successfully, Taylor's attitude turned around, and Marcus offered to pay for him to finish his marketing studies.
After the cameras left
The brand persists in two forms. Tea2Go itself continues as an active Texas franchise chain of more than 25 locations, so the parent name is alive and still franchising. The specific Dallas area location tied to the show's original franchisee rebranded to The American Tea & Spice Shop in Coppell, the concept Marcus built on air, and no longer offers franchises under that name. So both the old brand and the show's new one survive in some form. Renamed, medium confidence, as of 2026.
