What happened on the show
Peter and Alison ran Sweet Pete's, a beloved candy shop that also taught kids to make candy, but the operation was strangled by its setting, a residential area with a home kitchen. Their bigger obstacle was a business partner named Dane, who had supplied the property and a token $2,000 investment yet refused to sell his stake, leaving Peter and Alison living on roughly $10,000 a year from their own company. Marcus offered $750,000 for half the business. Dane would not budge even when Marcus offered his $2,000 back with interest, then tried to renegotiate and demanded $150,000 for his shares. Insulted, Marcus read the shareholder agreement, found a stock dilution clause, and used it. Peter and Alison would be loaned money to invest, diluting Dane unless he matched it, which he could not. Dane was out, clearing the way for the couple to grow. Marcus set up online ordering, rented a commercial kitchen, hired staff, scouted a prime new location, and handed them a mobile candy store to bridge the gap.

Sweet Pete's became one of the show's signature successes and remains one. The company operates a large candy store and attraction inside a historic Jacksonville mansion on North Hogan Street, with a busy Yelp and social presence, including a Facebook following well over a hundred thousand. It was successful enough that Marcus folded it into his orbit and brought its founder, Pete, back on later episodes to consult for other candy and confection businesses he was fixing.
