What happened on the show
ASL Signs belonged to Anthony, a young, ambitious owner who wanted to take his sign making business statewide and then national. Marcus quickly figured out that Anthony did not really want an investment partner so much as access to Marcus's contacts. The showroom was a chaotic jumble of signs that the team cleaned up, but the real issue was Anthony himself. When a nearby hotel came in to get a sign repaired, he passed up the chance to visit in person and pushed it to the next day, and his aggressive, domineering streak kept surfacing. He overrode his project manager Josh's designs with flashier but less practical fonts, and at the hotel he undercut Josh by promising impossible delivery times, confusing the buyer. Then a local business owner reached out to Marcus about Anthony's poor reputation in town, including a lawsuit over a botched sign. Marcus wanted no part of it and left. Notably, this was the only episode in which he never even made an offer.
