What happened on the show
U.J. Mollere kept losing new hires at his Metairie restaurant and suspected three of his own relatives on staff. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Deanna and Andrew in as a waitress and a customer. As aired, one niece proves a model manager, but the other, Dee Dee, is rude to customers and to non-family staff and rubs food on her body, while a nephew is chronically late and running on no sleep from cramming for school. The confrontation has U.J. firing Dee Dee, who threatens to send her mother after him, and giving the exhausted nephew room to handle his coursework. Stiles closes with a lighter workload turning the nephew into a straight-A student. With the staging allegations that later trailed Mystery Diners in mind, this all-in-the-family sting is best read as broadcast rather than as documented event.
After the cameras left
R and O's is still serving, a neighborhood fixture that the show never really threatened. The family-friendly Italian and Cajun spot and po-boy shop ranks high among Metairie restaurants and lists current hours across TripAdvisor and Yelp in our 2026 check at 216 Metairie-Hammond Highway. Its survival is the ordinary kind, a well-loved local room that kept its customers. The family friction the cameras filmed made for television, not for a business obituary.
