What happened on the show
Hernan Stutzer ran a monthly dine-in-the-dark event at his Miami restaurant, and complaints of groping and theft during the blackout had him suspecting three newly hired servers. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Billy and Hollie in as a waiter and a customer. In the dark, as aired, one server is clean while the other two, Cary and Gaby, have turned the event into a game, stealing from guests and messing with their food, the loser buying the winner drinks. The confrontation has Hernan firing the pair, Cary sore about being thrown under the bus and Gaby claiming she was fired for returning stolen sunglasses. Stiles closes with security cameras installed. Because Mystery Diners was later accused of scripting these reveals, this dark-dining sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as documented event.
After the cameras left
The gimmick did not save the restaurant, and neither did the show. Catharsis, the dine-in-the-dark Latin-fusion concept on Calle Ocho, is tagged closed on the directory listing we found, and its Florida LLC shows inactive on the corporate register, both consistent with closure in our 2026 pass at medium confidence. An exact date did not surface. A novelty concept fading a few years on is ordinary attrition, not the aftermath of a hidden-camera night, which is the pattern across nearly all of this show's closures.
