What happened on the show

Ramsay's first read on Oscar's was an unfocused, over-complicated menu, and he helped owner Maura Dooris tighten it and set up deals with local butchers. The real story in Nantwich turned out to be her son, head chef Lenin, alarmingly inconsistent at the stove. Sober, he was capable; Ramsay soon worked out he had been drinking during service, and his standards collapsed when he did. Told to keep his drinking to the evenings, Lenin instead had a waitress smuggle alcohol into the kitchen. Ramsay bargained him into a dry night by giving up swearing himself, but on the fourth night Lenin collapsed and was rushed to hospital with early-stage cirrhosis. That pulled the episode somewhere few others went: Ramsay brought in former chef Michael Quinn to talk about addiction in the trade, and Lenin was told to leave the job and enter rehab, while sous chef Les ran a successful service on a new Irish-themed menu.
