What happened on the show
A passive owner had let a run of bad decisions steer her Long Beach bar onto the rocks, and none was stranger than the controversial lobster crane game she had installed on the floor, a gimmick that summed up how far the room had drifted from anything a neighborhood actually wanted. An ignorant manager compounded every misstep, and the owner's own hands-off habit let both problems fester. At Lona's Wardlow Station, Taffer worked to get her to reassert herself, to drop the novelty distractions and run the bar like a business rather than a lark. He reopened the room as Lona's City Limits, a modernized take on the old name that preserved her personal equity in the place while signaling a cleaner, more coherent concept. The rescue's bet was that a more assertive owner, freed of the lobster crane and the manager dragging her down, could turn a directionless room into a genuine neighborhood bar with staying power.
After the cameras left
Lona's City Limits endured and grew into Lona's City Limits Cantina, still operating at 1174 East Wardlow Road with near-daily 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. hours. The Bar Rescue rename is the identity that stuck, putting this one in the renamed-and-thriving column at high confidence. Owner Lona Lee also runs a related Signal Hill location, though the status of that second bar falls outside this record.
