What happened on the show
JD Custom Designs was an Orange County company that made retail displays, and its bottleneck, in the episode's telling, was its owner. Jeff could not let go of control, and his grip slowed the work, limited creativity, and dragged on the company as a whole. It was the kind of founder led operation the show returned to again and again, a capable small business whose ceiling was set by an owner who would not delegate. Marcus's task in a situation like this was to pry loose that control, free up the people around Jeff to actually contribute, and put in the structure that lets a design and fabrication shop take on more work without everything routing through one person. The skills and the client demand were there, which made the owner's need to control everything the real thing standing in the way.

The custom screen printing and apparel shop, more than 12 years in business, runs a live site and Facebook page out of Fullerton, California, with a Facebook post dated December 2025 confirming recent activity and business directories listing an established date of 2010 and around 11 employees.
