What happened on the show
Alex Polizzi came to the aid of the Welcome Traveller Inn in west Wales during series 7, a family-run business struggling despite an excellent location. The stakes were stark: the family's entire future was tied up in the place, and Babs, who paid the bills, reckoned she had six to twelve months left to turn it around before losing both the business and the family home. That existential pressure shaped the whole visit. Polizzi was not polishing a viable concern but trying to save a family from ruin, and her task was to find, quickly, whatever changes could convert the inn's good position into enough trade to keep the roof over their heads. Babs's race against a six-to-twelve-month deadline aired in May 2011, and the Partridge family, running the inn since 2003, kept both the business and the family home.
After the cameras left
The Welcome Traveller pulled through and is still very much a going concern. The family-run inn and bed and breakfast with a restaurant, at Tiers Cross near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, has been run by the Partridge family since 2003 and keeps an active Facebook presence with a strong following and a 4.3 out of five across more than a hundred reviews. The countdown Babs described did not run out; the Welsh inn survived its crisis and continues to trade, one of the series 7 rescues that clearly held.
