What happened on the show
Alex Polizzi tried to turn around the Grosvenor Hotel in Rugby during series 7, a twenty-seven room property that had suffered a downturn in bookings despite money spent on renovation. Owner Raman Bal had hoped the hotel would be the foundation of an empire, but instead ran into debt and a fight for survival. The gap between his ambition and the trading reality frames the case: a proprietor with big plans and a hotel that was not filling its rooms, the renovation notwithstanding. Polizzi's job was to bring the ambition down to earth and fix the fundamentals of a mid-sized town hotel, so that the investment already made could start returning something rather than deepening the hole. Owner Raman Bal's empire ambitions aired in May 2011, well ahead of the steady, unglamorous trade the Rugby hotel eventually settled into.

The twenty-seven room hotel on Clifton Road in Rugby offers a restaurant, bar and conference and wedding facilities, and its booking platforms carry updated 2026 pricing, a firm sign of current operation. Whatever became of Raman Bal's empire ambitions, the Warwickshire hotel itself steadied and kept going, filling the rooms and running the events trade that a property of its size needs. This is a straightforward survival among the series 7 cases.
