What happened on the show
Bedfordshire's village of Heath and Reach was the setting for Alex Polizzi's series 16 visit to the Dukes, where mum-of-two Sarah was struggling with the pub she had bought three years earlier. A strong first year had given way to disaster after a personal setback: her confidence knocked and her attention elsewhere, occupancy collapsed and the business bombed. Polizzi arrived to find Sarah avoiding her own customers by staying in the kitchen, staff with little to do, and a character country pub that had come to feel more like a drop-in club than an inn. The case was as much about rebuilding an owner shaken by personal trouble as fixing the pub, and her task was to get Sarah out of the kitchen and back in command.
After the cameras left
The Dukes is open and trading, a hotel with a restaurant and event and stables accommodation at Heath and Reach in Bedfordshire. Its official site and active booking and social channels are live as of 2026, its restaurant holds a strong 4.7 out of five across more than two hundred reviews, and the show returned for a revisit in the series 19 finale in 2024. Sarah's pub, which had bombed after a personal setback left her hiding from her own customers, appears to have recovered fully into a healthy going concern, a clear series 16 success.
