What happened on the show
The Sandygate Hotel in South Yorkshire showed promise but was in peril when Alex Polizzi visited in series 6, undone by a lack of marketing savvy and sloppy pricing. Her first impressions were poor: an empty noticeboard, weak signage, shabby hanging baskets and a reception confusingly tucked behind the bar. Yet the rooms themselves turned out to be of decent quality, which sharpened the real problem. Polizzi realised the hotel had virtually no online presence at all, no website, reviews or pictures, so nobody could find it. The fix was less about the product, which was serviceable, than about visibility and pricing: getting a hidden hotel in front of the customers who would happily have used it. The invisible-hotel case aired in August 2010, and the property's continued thin online footprint years later echoes the very problem Polizzi flagged.
After the cameras left
The Sandygate is still listed as trading, in Wath upon Dearne near Rotherham, offering an inn and hotel with restaurant and bar service. The evidence, though, is thin: a single tourism directory listing plus a booking.com reference, with no official site confirmed, so the open status is held at low confidence. Given that the core problem Polizzi identified was invisibility rather than quality, a business that remains hard to find online years later fits uneasily somewhere between quietly trading and struggling. It is a recheck candidate.
