Kaylea opened Fresh Sandwich Shop believing her dream of cooking for a living had finally arrived, and seven months later that dream was nearly out of fuel. The Aurora sandwich shop, on Yonge Street, had launched on a business plan with serious flaws, and by the time Restaurant Takeover reached it the owner was short on cash, energy, and inspiration all at once. It is an early, brutal kind of failure, a first venture stalling before its first year. The Food Network Canada reboot of Restaurant Makeover sent chef Adam Hynam-Smith and designer Amanda Campbell in on the six-day clock to bring Kaylea's original vision to life well enough to draw the customers she needed and reignite the passion that had faded fast. The task was as much about the owner as the menu: rescue the concept, and rescue the person who had staked her chef ambitions on it.
