His confrontation turned on getting O'Connell to see how being everyone's friend was costing her the authority a restaurant needs. Degel's fixes leaned on the systems and firmer leadership he prescribes almost everywhere, the argument being that kindness and control are not opposites and that an owner can be both liked and in charge. The episode used the cameras to show her a version of her own floor she had been too close to read on her own.
