What happened on the show
Rick Bennett was losing specialty beer at his Long Beach brewery restaurant. Charles Stiles' investigator Patrick watched a head bartender hand crates to an unauthorized driver, then tagged the van, and mystery diners Brianna and Jamie went in as a waitress and a customer. As aired, the bartender and a manager were filling contraband growlers with the house beer for resale, while, separately, a waitress sabotaged a coworker who kept winning the staff incentive program by trashing his orders. The confrontation has Rick firing the bartender and manager as Stiles notes the police are about to intercept the van. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this bootlegging sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified.

Weiland Brewery Restaurant has since closed. A California corporate record for a Weiland-branded entity shows terminated status and no current listing surfaced for the Atlantic Avenue location in our 2026 pass, so we ship it closed at low confidence given the tangle of similarly named entities. A brewery restaurant winding down over the years is ordinary lifecycle, not the residue of a bootlegging sting. The show filmed one night of a growler scheme; the closure came later and could not be cleanly dated from the record.
