What happened on the show
Patrick Holleran watched top-shelf bottles go missing and pouring costs climb at his Long Beach beach-house bar, and he suspected his bartender. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Tracy and Shelby in as a waitress and a customer. As aired, bartender K.P. charges guests for premium liquor while ringing up well drinks, using fruit slices as a tally for how much cash to pocket. The sting also surfaces a separate problem, a head chef the owner had not known was harassing the female staff and belittling a male waiter. The confrontation has Patrick clawing back the cash and firing both men. Stiles closes with no more missing money, alcohol or fruit. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this seaside sting, with its two unrelated targets, is best read as broadcast rather than as independently confirmed.
