What happened on the show
Ali Rabbani was losing customers and finding gaps in his catering books at his Studio City Moroccan restaurant, and he suspected his manager. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Rob, Loree and Scarlett in as a waiter, a dancer and a customer. Even before the formal sting, as the episode tells it, the team clocks manager John's troubles, and the cameras then catch him drinking on shift, handing catering samples to friends, closing early so he can run a poker game, and lifting cash from Ali's safe to feed a gambling habit. The confrontation has Ali firing him, John protesting two years of loyalty. Stiles closes with John seeking help and profits recovering. With the staging allegations that later dogged Mystery Diners in mind, this addiction-driven sting reads best as aired rather than as independently verified.
