tip-skimming sting

What happened after

Latin-fusion tapas lounge on Riverside Dr (Toluca Lake/North Hollywood border); a live Yelp menu page exists but Yelp/TripAdvisor direct-fetch 403'd, and three separate search passes (Yahoo x3, one implicating 'D'Caché Investments' as an unrelated same-named entity) produced no closed-or-open confirmation.

What happened on the show

Tip-skimming was the charge at D'Cache, a Latin-fusion lounge on the North Hollywood and Toluca Lake line, where general manager James LaGrappe suspected his newly promoted head waiter of shorting the pooled tips. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Destiney and Grant in as a customer and a waiter. The cameras, as aired, catch waiter David telling guests the card reader is down so he can pocket the cash, cultivating regulars with free drinks the owner never sanctioned, and finally trying to frame Grant for a missing bill. The confrontation has David unrepentant, arguing that James rewarding unearned tips is the real theft, before James threatens the police and fires him. Given the scripting claims that later trailed Mystery Diners, the whole sequence is best read as broadcast, a dramatized case rather than a proven one.

After the cameras left

The show moved on and the paper trail thinned. We could not confirm a current status for D'Cache in our 2026 pass, with the Yelp and TripAdvisor pages blocking direct fetches and searches muddied by an unrelated firm sharing the name, so it stays at last confirmed rather than guessed. A menu page still surfaces for the Riverside Drive address, which hints at life, but a hint is not a status, and Mystery Diners left no rescue here to trace.
