What happened on the show

Ramsay had to hunt for an unmarked side door just to get into The Secret Garden, a French restaurant in Moorpark so quiet it had gone seven years without a crowd, exactly as long as Michel Bardavid had owned it. Michel, roughly three hundred thousand dollars in debt, copped to his own temper but little else. The spinach salad arrived with stone-cold, undercooked prawns; the Roquefort filet was tough with raw carrots and a greasy ball of potato. The kitchen was the real horror, so overrun with mold that it had soaked into the surfaces, with maggots to match. Michel deflected by name-dropping the great chefs he had worked for, and Ramsay, who knew them, said none would ever tolerate a kitchen like this. When Ramsay staged the restaurant to look foreclosed the next morning, Michel saw through the stunt and fumed, more in love with his own image, Ramsay concluded, than with the room he was losing.
