What happened on the show

The parents of Rita and Lisa ran a thriving Italian restaurant, L'Osteria, just up the street in Boston's North End, which made the sisters' own place, La Galleria 33, all the more baffling as a failure. Ramsay walked right past the two of them sitting outside, not realizing they were the owners. He soon found a restaurant run on bad habits: Rita chain-smoked and Lisa drank on the job, both quick to anger and quick to sit down, and the chef turned out to be Rita's ex-husband, whose talent Lisa attributed entirely to their father's training. The manager, Pat, was a shoe salesman who had appointed himself to the role after being fired as a busboy and simply walking by until he was rehired. The food was frozen top to bottom, the seafood ravioli and even the house-made gnocchi frozen, the meatballs rubbery as golf balls. The sisters, meanwhile, were most upset that a waitress had chosen those dishes to serve.

After the cameras left

La Galleria 33 ran until the end of 2018 before closing with no public explanation, though slipping reviews for service and food quality preceded it. The 125 Salem Street space in the North End lost the sisters' restaurant, which had spent its whole life in the shadow of their parents' far more successful spot nearby. Ramsay never could pin down why the same family touch failed a few doors away, and the closing did not answer it either.
