What happened on the show
Davide sat in Boston's North End, a stretch famous for great Italian food, but the trouble inside was a brotherhood in ruins. Frank and Anthony Gesualdi had run it together since 1997, until Anthony began embezzling from the restaurant to feed a serious drug problem. He had since gotten clean and come back, yet Frank still carried the resentment, and roughly a million dollars in debt, on his shoulders. When Ramsay asked them to tell their story, Frank cut to it: you destroyed the business. The food undercut Davide's homemade claims. The Caesar was watery enough that the dressing ran off the lettuce, the eggplant underfried and questionable, and the lobster ravioli, full of what Ramsay called goo, turned out not to be made in house at all. Frank just wanted a single compliment, even for a sauce; Ramsay's real question was whether he still wanted to cook at all.
After the cameras left
Davide held on a few more years before closing in 2014, three years after the episode. Frank Gesualdi reportedly left restaurants behind entirely, starting a farm business afterward. A million dollars in debt, brought on in part by a partner's addiction and theft, was never realistic to cook your way out of, and the 326 Commercial Street space in the North End lost a restaurant with a history that predated the brothers who finished it.
