What happened on the show

Mick was a former trucker and burger-van man who had opened a bistro in Okehampton alongside his wife Mo and their adopted daughter Michelle. Ramsay recoiled at the psychedelic wallpaper but liked the simple menu, at least until he saw how Mick cooked it: orange squash pressed into service as a sauce, vacuum-sealed lamb shanks left unrefrigerated and then microwaved. Mick took no responsibility for any of it, was secretive about his spending, and sat on a mountain of debt. His refusal to admit fault opened a rift with his wife and daughter. Ramsay's answer was to take the business out of Mick's hands and remove him from the kitchen altogether, installing Michelle in charge despite her having no cooking experience. She rose to it. Mick stayed unconvinced about giving up his microwave, but the reopening worked, and months on the bistro, renamed Martins' Bistro during production, was turning a profit, with Michelle sent for further culinary training.
