What happened on the show

Only four rooms in the historic Monticello Hotel in Longview, Washington were fit to use; everyone else got shunted to the motel next door. Owner Phillip Lovingfoss had inherited the place and had money, shown off in a row of classic cars parked outside, yet he ran the hotel like a miser. The staff told Ramsay the harder truth, that the owner was severely alcoholic and had spent the previous night in jail on a DUI. Ramsay staged an intervention for Phillip, then renovated the guest rooms and reworked the menu. The real crisis here was never really the decor or the food; it was an owner whose drinking and penny-pinching had hollowed out a building that should have been a Longview landmark. For a four-room hotel, the gap between the money on display outside and the neglect inside was the whole story.

After the cameras left

The intervention and the renovations could not outlast the finances. The Monticello Hotel closed in 2016 under the weight of the owners' debts. It flickered back briefly, hosting temporary hospitality ventures between 2017 and 2019, before the building was converted permanently into apartments in 2019. As of our latest verification pass it no longer operates as a hotel, though a restaurant, Grant's at the Monticello, still runs dining and events inside the old walls. The record states plainly that the 2019 conversion to an apartment building happened. The address survives in Longview; the hotel does not.
