What happened on the show
Whitbourne Hall presented Ruth Watson with a problem that was as much political as financial. The Grade II* listed neo-Palladian house in the village of Whitbourne, Herefordshire, had been carved into twenty-three flats back in the 1970s, and by the time the show arrived the shared building had fallen into disrepair while its many resident owners could not agree on how to fund the repairs. There was no single owner to persuade, only a committee. Ruth's ideas aimed at making the communal asset earn: a luxury campsite in the hall's surrounding gardens, and maximising the grand house as a wedding venue. Both could bring real money in. The catch, and the drama, was whether a whole body of flat-owners at Whitbourne would ever unite behind one plan of action long enough to act on it. The crumbling house needed consensus before it needed a single spade in the ground, and consensus was the scarcest thing on the estate.

Whitbourne Hall found its way to a working answer. As of our latest verification pass the house remains in residential use, owned by Whitbourne Hall Community Ltd, and alongside the apartments, by appointment it hires the house and grounds out for wedding receptions, for private visits, and for one-off special events.
