To rescue the Whiskey Girl Saloon in Fort Worth's historic Stockyards, Taffer had to get an inexperienced co-owner to drop his hard-partying alter ego, Rick Roundhouse. The persona was more than a nickname; it was a way of life that had the co-owner treating the bar as a stage for his own indulgence rather than a business to run. The rescue worked to retire Rick Roundhouse and get the owner to take the Stockyards saloon seriously. Taffer reopened the venue as The Stampede Saloon, a Western rebrand meant to give the room a fitting identity in the historic district, betting that an owner who set aside his party alter ego could run a saloon in one of Fort Worth's marquee tourist areas.
