What happened on the show
An owner more devoted to the spirit of wonderment than to appealing to her trendy Chicago neighborhood needed a dose of tough love. At the Underground Wonder Bar, a live-music room, Taffer had to get an idealistic owner to balance her artistic vision against the practical business of drawing the fashionable crowd around her, and for the recon he brought in the owners of The Blue Frog 22, by then rebranded as The Local. The rescue worked to sharpen the operation without stamping out the live-music soul the owner cherished, a careful balance between commerce and character. The room kept its Underground Wonder Bar name through the makeover, a signal that its identity was worth preserving once the business behind it was tightened, and it held that name through the show's 2016 revisit as well.
After the cameras left
The Underground Wonder Bar is still open under its original name. Its official website is live and describes nightly live music at 10 E Walton Street, with Facebook activity dated to April 2026, which puts the open call at high confidence. The room kept its identity through the rescue and the 2016 revisit and continues as a going Chicago music bar, one of the cleaner survivors in this stretch of the catalog, its wonderment and its business finally coexisting.
