What happened on the show
An absentee owner was drinking away his money troubles and flirting with the women who came in, and both habits were threatening his marriage along with his bar. At Summit House Grill and Tap in Lakewood, Taffer had to confront a disengaged owner whose self-destructive coping was hollowing out the business, and the owner's wife sat with him to watch the recon. The rescue faced an unusual constraint, city ordinances that barred Taffer from changing the building's exterior or the bar's name, forcing the fix to come entirely from within. The rescue worked to pull the absentee owner back into the room and confront the drinking and flirting that were costing him everything, betting that a reengaged owner could steady a business his neglect had left drifting.
After the cameras left
Summit House Grill and Tap has since closed. A RestaurantGuru listing displays a permanently-closed notice for the business at 14285 West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood, matching the entity, which puts the closure at high confidence. The absentee owner's bar did not survive: whatever the rescue changed within the constraints the city imposed, the room the ordinances forced Taffer to fix from the inside eventually shut its doors for good, closing the book on one of season five's Colorado stops.
