What happened on the show

A self-proclaimed nightlife expert was sinking under the weight of his own ego, his mounting debt and his poor choices. At Mandala Lounge in San Mateo, Taffer butted heads with an owner whose inflated self-image, chauvinistic attitude toward women and questionable design decisions had left the room struggling and in debt. The rescue became a contest of wills, Taffer trying to get a man convinced of his own expertise to accept that his expertise was the problem. He reopened the venue as 38th Floor, a rebrand meant to give the lounge a cleaner identity and a fresh start once the owner's worst instincts were checked, betting that a chastened owner and a coherent concept could pull a debt-laden room back from the edge, if the self-styled expert could ever admit he needed the help.
