What happened on the show

Taffer reached a California pub where the rudeness of one manager had become the entire business problem, and owners who would not lift a finger to rein him in. Kilkenny's Irish Pub sat at 100 Fisherman's Wharf in Redondo Beach, a prime coastal spot squandered by an abrasive, hostile front-of-house that was actively chasing customers out the door while ownership watched. The rescue centered on breaking that dynamic, pressing the owners to finally assert authority over a manager they had allowed to run the room unchecked for too long. Taffer's diagnosis was that the location deserved far better than the attitude serving it, so he scrapped the tired Irish-pub identity entirely and rebranded the room as Breakwall Bar and Grill, a coastal name meant to match the wharf setting and hand the bar a genuine reason to draw a fresh crowd rather than lean on the regulars its own staff kept alienating.

After the cameras left

Breakwall barely got started. The rebranded bar closed within months, in early January 2012, a timeline owner Allie Speed confirmed to local outlet Patch, with Yelp corroborating the closed tag. The Fisherman's Wharf space did not stay empty long: it later held a Barney's Beanery, which itself closed in 2020, and the address was reported vacant as of 2022. Of all the premiere-season rescues, this one unraveled fastest.
