What happened on the show

An owner's son faced Taffer's fury when it emerged he had been mismanaging the family bar and embezzling money from his own father and business partner. At Dale 1891 in Tampa, Taffer had to decide whether the son could straighten out or whether the father should cut him loose, and the recon took an unusual form, held on a movie screen at the Villagio Cinemas next door, which shared the bar's ownership. The reported losses, initially given as only 5,000 dollars a month, turned out to be just the unpaid rent, and a night of forensic work exposed the managing partner charging personal expenses to the business. Taffer reopened the venue as Cayman Cove, an island-themed rebrand meant to give the family a fresh start once the embezzlement was dragged into the light.

After the cameras left

Cayman Cove closed in June 2019, roughly three years after the rescue. Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, a local alt-weekly, reported in its roundup of Florida Bar Rescue bars that the venue announced its closing on June 6, 2019, which puts the ending at high confidence. The rescue held the room together through the show's 2017 revisit, but the family bar the embezzling son nearly gutted did not survive the decade, closing its doors under the Cayman Cove name Taffer had given it.
