What happened on the show

Alex Polizzi found the 300-year-old Rose and Crown in the market town of Wisbech in genuine crisis during series 5. Her diagnosis fixed on a specific strangler: mountains of paperwork and administrative chaos were throttling the business. Rather than a decor problem, this was an operational one, and Polizzi set about coaching the owners, Jonathan and Jacquie, in how a properly run hotel ought to be managed, cutting through the bureaucratic tangle that was consuming their time and their trade. A historic coaching inn has plenty going for it, but not if the people running it are drowning in process, and her fix was about system and discipline more than paint. The paperwork-strangled inn aired in July 2009, and the operational discipline Polizzi taught bought years of trading before the eventual 2022 closure.

After the cameras left

The Rose and Crown has since closed for good. The Grade II listed fifteenth-century coaching inn on Wisbech Market Place announced via its official Facebook that, as of 4 November 2022, it was permanently closed to the public, and a Wisbech Standard article confirmed the shutdown. The building had housed homeless individuals during the COVID lockdown before the closure. Polizzi's operational overhaul bought years of trading, but the deeper viability of a large historic inn in a small market town eventually gave out. The closure itself is firmly documented.
