What happened on the show
The owner of the New Lyngarth in Blackpool had taken over a derelict fifteen-bedroom building in 2009 with grand plans, hoping to draw an upmarket, select clientele more suited to a private members' club. Reality intruded during Alex Polizzi's series 8 visit when water dripped onto her head at breakfast, and the full extent of the problems unfolded from there. Her attempts to inject new life met scepticism from an owner wedded to an ambition the property could not yet support. Polizzi's aim was to bring the hotel up to a basic standard and secure a Visit England accreditation, grounding lofty aspirations in the unglamorous work of fixing a leaking, half-finished seaside hotel first. The leaking, half-finished members'-club vision aired in November 2011, and the property's faint online trail years later suggests, at best, a fragile survival.

The New Lyngarth appears to still exist, a twelve-room hotel and restaurant near the Winter Gardens on Banks Street, but the signal is weak. The evidence is limited to aggregator mirrors with no live official site found, one listing looked stale, and a 2023 video reportedly showed the property in poor condition, though that could not be independently verified.
