What happened on the show

Ruth Watson went to Bath to work out why an award-winning small hotel had so few guests, and the answer was not the awards. She met owner Sue and quickly concluded that no amount of tasteful decor could paper over the fundamentals: cramped bedrooms crowded with soft toys, dingy bathrooms, weak presentation and a starting price north of a hundred pounds a night that the rooms could not justify. It was a mismatch between what Tasburgh charged and what it delivered, and Watson's plain-spoken style was well suited to naming it. Her prescription was to make the rooms earn their rate, clear the twee clutter, and align the price with a standard guests would actually pay for, rather than trading on reputation while the experience slipped behind it.

Tasburgh House has closed as a hotel. It had operated as one since around 1969, converted from three flats, and was owned and managed by Susan Keeling from 1996 to 2019. In 2019 it was sold to The Three Bears Ventures Limited, closed permanently in 2020, and the Warminster Road building reverted to private residential use.
