What happened on the show
Jon and Sandie Harrap ran a three-diamond, eight-bedroom guest house in Weston-super-Mare, and by their own admission they had simply run out of ideas, which is why they called Ruth Watson in. What she found was a property frozen in time: worn-out decor, an overstuffed lounge and tasteless ornaments colonising every surface. The couple were not resistant so much as stuck, and Watson's briskness took them both aback. Her diagnosis was that a seaside guest house cannot coast on being pleasant; it has to look current and give guests a reason to book it over the dozens of similar places along the same stretch. She pushed a declutter and a refresh of the dowdy interior, dragging the Harraps out of the comfortable rut that had quietly stalled their trade.
After the cameras left
Saxonia is still open and taking guests. The nine-room guest house, a ten-minute walk from Weston-super-Mare railway station, keeps an active booking presence on its own site and across the major travel platforms as of the 2026 check. The Harraps' willingness to accept a hard outside eye seems to have paid off in longevity: a small independent that could easily have drifted into decline instead settled into two decades of steady trading.
