What happened on the show

Jill and Steve owned a smart two-star manor hotel of fourteen bedrooms just outside Birmingham, with a restaurant, swimming pool, gardens and a marquee kitted out for weddings, and Jill loved playing bridal fairy godmother. Life at the hotel, though, was no fairytale. The couple had poured time and savings into the manor, but the returns never matched the effort; the business had never made a profit, was losing money week on week, and the strain was now telling on their relationship as much as the balance sheet. Alex Polizzi's series 8 job was to make a well-appointed wedding venue actually pay, and to steady a partnership buckling under a hotel that consumed more than it returned. Jill and Steve's loss-making wedding venue aired in October 2011, its finances and their relationship both under strain by the time Polizzi arrived.

After the cameras left

Grimscote Manor came through and trades on. The country-house hotel at Coleshill in Warwickshire, near Birmingham Airport and the NEC, runs a full operation today with a restaurant, weddings and events, and re-landscaped grounds featuring a water feature, its official site confirming live booking and current contact details. The wedding trade Jill cherished appears to have become the sustainable core Polizzi needed it to be, turning a loss-making labour of love into a stable events-led business well over a decade after her visit.
