What happened on the show

The New Rochelle stakeout carried a pointed lesson, that a restaurant cannot be everything to everybody, and Degel aimed his hidden cameras at AJ's Burgers to make the case. The surveillance captured the floor in its natural state, and as aired the footage gave Degel a documented picture of an operation that had spread itself too thin. His confrontation pushed the owner to narrow the focus and run the room with more discipline, while his fixes brought the usual reset of systems and standards. The episode leaned on the format's central claim, using the cameras to show an owner the difference between what he believed his burger joint was and what it had actually become once no one behind the counter thought the boss was watching.

After the cameras left

AJ's Burgers is open. Its official site is live and registered, and a Yelp listing carries detailed current hours, closed Mondays and open the rest of the week, with a strong rating at the North Avenue address in New Rochelle. The combination of a live official domain and a current hours listing makes this a high confidence survivor. The burger joint Degel told to narrow its focus is still serving years later.
