What happened on the show

Rick Engel found kegs of Green Room, one of his best house beers, going missing at his Austin brewery and barbecue joint, and heard the beer was turning up at nearby campus parties. His three suspects, as the episode has it, were a manager, a waiter and a bartender, all former fraternity brothers. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Vanessa and Robin in as a waitress and a customer, and the cameras catch the crew drinking on shift and selling a keg straight to their old frat, then turning on each other once cornered, with text messages exposing the ringleader. The confrontation has Rick firing all three. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this keg-theft sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as documented event.

After the cameras left

Uncle Billy's did not close so much as relocate. The South Austin brewery and barbecue spot left its Barton Springs Road home around 2019 and continues under the same name in Dripping Springs, the old site later taken by Austin Eastciders, per Eater Austin in our 2026 check. That is an ordinary move, not a rescue, and we track it as relocated and still running. The keg drama the cameras filmed had no bearing on where the business eventually landed.
