Thanksgiving theft sting
What happened after
Neighborhood sports bar/tavern still operating under the same name at the same address.
What happened on the show
Kristian Krieger suspected his own staff of stealing from the Thanksgiving food drive at his El Segundo tavern. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Shelby and Kiel in as a waitress and a customer. As aired, a busboy swipes a can of peaches to eat on break, a waitress lifts donated wine and cupcakes on the logic that homeless people do not need them, and an oblivious manager rings the oversized discounts she had pushed to pad her tips. The confrontation has Kristian firing the waitress and warning the manager. Stiles closes with the food drive shaping up as the tavern's best yet. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this holiday-theft sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified fact.
After the cameras left
Tavern on Main is still open, a going neighborhood bar the episode never threatened. The El Segundo sports tavern operates under the same name at the same address, 123 Main Street, confirmed across several independent directories in our 2026 pass. It is a durable local room that appeared on a crisis show and kept right on serving, its survival the ordinary kind rather than a rescue. The food-drive drama made an episode; it was never the measure of whether this tavern would last.
