What happened on the show
Don Dial suspected his San Francisco cafe's manager of running promotions he never authorized, and Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Brianna and Nate in as a waitress and a customer to check. As aired, manager Erik has built a whole get-rich-quick sideline, charging customers to change their orders, staging a fake celebrity sighting with a friend impersonating Jamie Foxx and selling photos, and hawking bogus shirts and hats bearing the face of Don's grandfather Rocco. A busboy is caught smoking and loafing alongside him. The confrontation has Don firing the busboy, then firing Erik after a round of Don's trademark movie-star sarcasm. Stiles closes with Don back to making his own promotions. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this side-hustle sting is best read as broadcast rather than as verified.

Rocco's is still open, a genuinely old San Francisco diner that never needed the show.
