What happened on the show
David and Petra Vieira ran a live-music pizzeria in Moorpark and found their pizza supplies coming up short on band nights. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Amber and Grant in as a waitress and a customer, with musician Robbie Rist, a regular performer there, joining as a guest diner. As aired, manager Jesse has a waitress ring plain pizza slices as light beer to pay the bands off the books, runs his own bouncer to collect cover charges he pockets, and stiffs the acts, one of which tries to make off with the owner's fire truck in protest. The confrontation has the Vieiras clawing back the cover money and firing Jesse. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this cover-charge sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified.
After the cameras left
Redballs has since closed, and the friction was as much with the city as with any employee. The live-music pizzeria at 13816 Princeton Avenue is marked closed across several directories, reportedly after a run-in with Moorpark over its entertainment and a failed petition to keep it open, at medium confidence in our 2026 pass. That is ordinary lifecycle for a niche concept, years past the episode. A noise-heavy pizzeria ran out of room to operate; the sting had nothing to do with it.
