What happened on the show
Glen and Susan McIntyre ran a restaurant and lodge near Sequoia National Park and were losing food and liquor while guests complained of theft and late-night parties. Charles Stiles' investigator Eliot spotted a waiter dumping bags of empties, and mystery diners Kendall and Jamie went in as a maid and a guest. As aired, a night manager, that waiter and a maid had been throwing the parties, the housekeeper and waiter texting about when to lift guests' liquor and toiletries, the manager lying to guests and feeding the parties the restaurant's food, even letting drunk guests drive the owners' new limo. The confrontation has the owners firing the manager and maid. Because Mystery Diners was later accused of scripting its confrontations, this lodge sting is best read as broadcast rather than as documented event.
After the cameras left
Gateway is still open, a going Sequoia-gateway operation the episode never threatened. The restaurant and lodge at 45978 Sierra Drive keeps regular hours, recent reviews confirming ongoing operation despite some maintenance gripes in our 2026 pass, at medium confidence. A destination lodge that appeared on a crisis show simply kept its doors open, its survival the ordinary kind rather than a rescue. The party drama made an episode; it was never the measure of whether this lodge would last.
