What happened on the show

Keith Buttons Hicks had a manager problem of an unusual flavor at his Dallas restaurant and jazz club: an ex-military floor boss so strict he was costing the place staff and customers. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Ben, Justin and Nicole in as a waiter and customers. As aired, manager Tony makes an ROTC-trainee employee who idolizes him do push-ups and sprint laps for being late, and drives Buttons' best waitress to quit. The confrontation takes an atypical turn: Buttons, a veteran himself, declines to fire Tony and instead pushes him to soften his approach. Stiles closes with the waitress rehired and promoted. With the staging allegations that later trailed Mystery Diners in mind, this discipline-driven sting, and its unusually merciful ending, is best read as broadcast rather than as documented fact.

After the cameras left

Buttons did not close so much as move and rename. The upscale Southern-comfort restaurant and jazz club relocated within the metro and continues to operate as Buttons Food and Music, in the Addison area, with an active following and a Food Network profile in our 2026 pass. That is an ordinary evolution, not a rescue, and we track it as relocated and still running. Charles Stiles filmed one strict manager; the business itself carried on and changed addresses on its own schedule years later.
