What happened on the show

Returning from a visit to his ill mother abroad, Burien restaurateur Michael Vujovich found expensive wine and a valuable painting gone, and he suspected his manager and a waitress. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners in as a waitress, two customers and an art admirer. As aired, the waitress is clean, but manager Ron has been brokering secret art deals and giving away pricey wine, and a test, having two diners each try to walk off with a bottle, exposes a second waitress who lets a thief go after a bribe. The confrontation has Michael making Ron and the bribed waitress return the money and firing both, declaring he hates thieves. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this wine-and-art sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified.

Bistro Baffi has since closed, and the owner named hard reasons.
